Interpreting for the 2020 & 2021 Online Meetings of the Global Education Deans’ Forums

The Global Education Deans’ Forum was initiated by East China Normal University and the University of Kansas to create a mechanism for cooperation and dialogue for leaders of the world’s leading education schools. After two successful offline meetings in 2018 and 2019, the 2020, Spring 2021, and Fall 2021 meetings were held online by the School of Education and Human Development of Boston College. The ITS faculty Dr. Xijinyan Chen and alumni Hongyu Lu and Yuanyuan Zhang were invited by Dean Stanton Wortham to provide simultaneous interpreting services to the three meetings.

On October 22, 2020, more than 40 deans from education schools around the globe discussed the teaching and research situations of their countries or regions during the pandemic, the responsibilities and missions of their institutions, the challenges they faced, and the solutions they came up with.

On April 28 and October 22, 2021, more than 20 deans met online twice to share the current situations and trends of education in the post-pandemic era. In the spring, the two rounds of conversations were about “the Pandemic and Its Ongoing Effects” and “the Future of Schools of Education.” And the deans continued their discussions on the impacts of COVID on education and the expanding role of technology in the fall meeting.
